Premier League Audit — 2026/27 Matchday 10
2026/27 Matchday 10 · published 2026-11-02
Brighton are the story of the week, and the fixture list knows it. They beat Manchester City 1-0 last time out, they lead this group of clubs in scoring at 2.7 goals per game, and they won four of their last five. Now Brentford arrive, a side that scores 1.8 per game and ships just 1 per game.
This is the game that tells us whether Brighton's attack is a genuine force or a hot streak. Their defence is just as stingy at 0.8 conceded per game. If they keep a team as organised as Brentford at arm's length, the argument is over.
The rest of the weekend has plenty to chew on too. City travel to Nottingham Forest with the widest scoring gap on the slate. Chelsea visit Sunderland. Arsenal host Hull City after beating Liverpool.
2026/27 Matchday 10 snapshot
Start at the top. Brighton's 2.7 goals per game is 1.3 above the league average. Manchester City follow at 2.2, Chelsea at 2.1 and Brentford at 1.8. That is a tidy top four, and three of those clubs feature in the games below.
At the other end, Nottingham Forest score just 0.7 per game, the lowest figure of any club here. They also concede 1.3 per game. Sunderland are barely better at 0.8 scored, and they let in 1.9.
Crystal Palace have the leakiest defence at 2.3 conceded per game. Ipswich concede 2, and Sunderland 1.9. At the other extreme, Arsenal have allowed just 0.6 per game, with Brighton on 0.8 and Leeds on 0.9.
The widest gap on the slate is Forest against City. The visitors' 2.2 goals per game against the hosts' 0.7 is the biggest contrast on the card, and the numbers lean clearly toward City. Sunderland against Chelsea comes next in terms of scoring contrast.
Featured matchups
Brighton against Brentford is the one I'd circle. Brighton's attack grades 1.7 above what Brentford normally allow, and Brentford's own attack grades 1 above what Brighton allow. Both can score, and neither defence is a wall. Brentford beat Forest 2-0 last time out, so they arrive in decent shape, but Brighton's numbers at both ends are the best here.
Forest against City is the mismatch. City lost to Brighton, and they have won three of their last five. That is solid rather than dominant. Forest, meanwhile, have lost four of their last five and went down 2-0 to Brentford. City's attack is the most expansive in the matchup by a distance. Forest's defence concedes 1.3 per game, and their attack faces a City defence allowing 1.1. I'd be surprised if this is close, but City's recent wobble means the story is whether they bounce straight back.
Arsenal against Hull City looks tidier on paper than it will feel. Arsenal beat Liverpool 1-0, they have won four of their last five and they concede just 0.6 per game. Hull drew 2-2 with Ipswich and have no more than a single win in their last five. Hull's attack grades well against Arsenal's numbers, but that is largely a quirk of how low Arsenal's defensive figure is. It is a game where Arsenal's discipline decides things.
Sunderland against Chelsea pairs a side that lost 3-1 to Coventry with one that beat Manchester United 2-0. Sunderland have lost four of their last five and score 0.8 per game. Chelsea score 2.1 but concede 1.7, so Sunderland will see chances. Whether they can finish them is the question.
The remaining games are tighter on the numbers. Everton against Coventry, Leeds against Tottenham, Ipswich against Bournemouth and Manchester United against Aston Villa all land close to even on the scoring comparison. Everton, fresh from a 1-0 win over Newcastle, face a Coventry side that won 3-1 against Sunderland. United are winless in their last five, and a 2-0 loss to Chelsea is the latest entry. Villa drew 1-1 with Fulham.
Fulham host Newcastle, who lost 1-0 at Everton, and the visitors have the better scoring numbers at 1.5 per game against 1. Crystal Palace host Liverpool after a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham. Liverpool lost to Arsenal, so neither side arrives with momentum.
Club form (matchday fixtures)
Brighton's profile is the cleanest in the group: 2.7 scored, 0.8 conceded, four wins in five. Manchester City are 2.2 scored and 1.1 conceded, and Chelsea are 2.1 and 1.7. Chelsea's defence is the obvious soft spot on a team that scores freely.
Brentford and Bournemouth fill in the middle. Brentford score 1.8 and concede 1, and they have won two of their last five. Bournemouth score 1.6 and concede 1.4, having won three of five, and their 2-0 win over Leeds was a good reminder of what they can do. Arsenal's 1.6 scored is modest, but pairing it with 0.6 conceded makes them dangerous in a different way.
Further down, Tottenham have won three of their last five and score 1.1 per game. Coventry also have three wins in five but concede 1.8. Ipswich are a goals-both-ways team, scoring 1.6 and conceding 2. Hull City have drawn their way through, and Manchester United have found no wins at all in their last five.
Then there are the strugglers. Forest and Sunderland have both lost four of their last five, and their attacks are the weakest on the slate. Palace's problem is at the other end: 2.3 conceded per game is the highest figure here.
Player rates in this matchday's fixtures
Erling Haaland of Manchester City owns this section. His 9 goals lead the league, and he leads on shots on goal with 16 and on total shots with 28. That is a lot of shooting, and it is a reason City's attack looks so dangerous at Forest.
Behind him the goals chart is competitive. Liverpool's A. Isak has 6, while Chelsea's João Pedro and M. Rogers and Bournemouth's M. Tavernier each have 5. Chelsea having two of those names says plenty about their attacking depth.
D. Rice of Arsenal leads the assists chart with 5. Evanilson of Bournemouth and P. Groß of Brighton each have 4, and João Pedro and C. Palmer of Chelsea each have 3. Groß matters most this weekend, since he is Brighton's creative engine going into the Brentford game.
On shots on goal, Tavernier is next behind Haaland with 13, while Pedro Neto of Chelsea, B. Mbeumo of Manchester United and T. Barry of Everton all have 12. Mbeumo is worth noting because he is carrying United's attack while the club stays winless over five.
For raw shot volume, J. Enciso of Ipswich has 23, C. Palmer 21, Mbeumo 20 and N. Jackson of Aston Villa 19. Enciso's total is striking given how many goals Ipswich concede, which tells you he has to carry plenty of the burden.
Notes on the numbers
Each club is graded on goals scored and allowed per game for this matchday's featured set. Every attack is then lined up against the defense it actually faces.

2026/27 Matchday 10 matchup comps — attack vs the defense it faces
Home GF/game is what the home attack usually scores; Away GA/game is what the visitor’s defense usually concedes — Home attack vs away defense is simply that offense minus that defense (positive means the home attack outpaces this opponent). The mirror columns do the same for the away attack against the home defense.
