Detroit Pistons vs Brooklyn Nets recap: final score and what we learned (Week of Oct 30–Nov 5, 2026)

NBA Audit · Week of Oct 30–Nov 5, 2026 · Game recap

The Detroit Pistons went into Brooklyn and settled the argument. They beat the Nets 110-94, a 16-point win that backed up the defense-first identity we described in the preview. The Nets' skid is still alive, and the question we asked, whether their offense is real or just loud, got an answer nobody in Brooklyn will enjoy.

The result

Start with the scoreboard. Brooklyn averages 119.3 points per game, and it finished with 94. That is a long way under its usual number against a team that allows 107.7, and Detroit's defense deserves the credit.

The shooting lines were closer than the final score suggests. Detroit hit 38 of 90 from the field for 42 percent, and Brooklyn hit 31 of 77 for 40 percent. Both teams were cold from deep: Detroit made 12 of 41 and Brooklyn made 11 of 37. At the line they were nearly identical, with Detroit at 22 of 28 and Brooklyn at 21 of 26.

The gap showed up in volume and ball movement. Detroit took 90 shots to Brooklyn's 77 and handed out 25 assists to the Nets' 20. The Pistons also had 14 steals to Brooklyn's 8, which fits a team that wins by controlling the defensive end. Brooklyn committed 23 fouls to Detroit's 19.

One surprise: Brooklyn won the rebounding battle 50 to 41, including 41 defensive boards to Detroit's 32. Both teams grabbed 9 offensive rebounds. Winning the glass and still losing by 16 is a rough combination for the Nets.

How our preview held up

The preview made no pick, so there is no win or loss to log. We called it a puzzle between Brooklyn's scoring rate and Detroit's tighter defense, and the Pistons' side of that puzzle was the one that held up.

Our biggest swing and miss was leaning on the matchup number. The Nets' offense against Detroit's defense came out at 11.6, a decidedly Brooklyn-friendly figure, and it did not show up. We did warn against reading too much into Brooklyn's scoring edge, since the Nets' defense was the reason they were losing, and that caution looks wise.

We also said the game would turn on whether Brooklyn could string together stops. Detroit's 110 is below the 120 the Nets usually allow, so they did tighten up. It wasn't enough, because their own offense stalled at 94. We called neither argument airtight, and that was fair. The scoring-rate case simply collapsed.

What it means

For Detroit, this is another data point for a team that has won four of its last five heading into the game. The Pistons aren't flashy, and their 110 was a bit below their usual 113.7. They don't need to be. If the defense travels like this, they will be hard to knock off most nights.

For Brooklyn, the picture is more uncomfortable. The offense that looked like proof of life in the preview produced one of its quieter nights, and the skid we flagged is still going. A team that wins the rebounding battle, shoots about as well as its opponent and still loses by 16 has a deeper problem than one bad shooting night.

The Nets' scoring average is still good, but the defense and the shot count are what they need to fix. Until they do, a high-scoring offense will keep ending up in games like this one.
