Indiana Pacers vs Miami Heat recap: final score and what we learned (Week of Oct 30–Nov 5, 2026)

NBA Audit · Week of Oct 30–Nov 5, 2026 · Game recap

The Miami Heat needed a night like this, and they got it. They beat the Indiana Pacers 145–125 at home, a 20-point result that answers, at least for one game, the question of whether Miami's offense can carry a defense that has struggled all season. It did, and then some.

One game doesn't repair a slump, but it changes the conversation. Miami came in having lost four of its last five, and this was the kind of win that gives a team something to build on.

The result

The Heat were efficient from everywhere. They made 54 of 93 from the field for 58 percent, and 18 of 40 from three for 45 percent. They also made 19 of 23 at the line. That's a complete offensive night, and it's hard to beat a team that shoots like that.

Indiana wasn't bad. The Pacers shot 48 percent overall, made 17 of 37 from deep for 46 percent, and scored 125. That total should be enough on most nights. It wasn't here because Miami was better in the places that decide a game between two good offenses.

The rebounding gap tells the story. Miami pulled down 48 boards to Indiana's 37, including 33 on the defensive end against 23 for the Pacers. Miami also dished 38 assists to Indiana's 28, so the ball kept moving and the shots kept falling. Indiana did win the steals count, 11 to 8, and got to the line more often, going 20 of 27. Neither was close to enough.

How our preview held up

Our preview made no pick, so there's no win or loss to log. We did make several reads, and the results were mixed.

We said points wouldn't be the issue, and that was right. Both teams scored freely. We also said the Heat offense had the more favorable matchup and a decent path to buckets. That was an understatement.

We also called the Pacers' offense against Miami's defense a rough matchup for Indiana, and that didn't hold. Indiana shot 48 percent and scored 125, well above its season rate of 117.1. We leaned toward Indiana's steadier two-way profile, and that didn't hold either. The Heat's scoring did the work.

The part we got partly right was the shootout warning. We said a team allowing 123.4 a night would be the one chasing if this became a track meet. Miami gave up 125, above that season rate, and still won comfortably. The defense wasn't fixed, but the offense and the glass work covered for it.

What it means

For Miami, this is a proof of concept. Winning the rebounding and assist battles while shooting well is the template, and the Heat can repeat it. The caution is the defense. Allowing 125 is not a recipe that works every night, and a team that scores less than 145 will make that problem harder to hide.

For Indiana, the loss stings more for how it happened than for the score. The offense produced, so the Pacers' problem was on the other end and on the glass. Giving up that many defensive rebounds and that many assists means too many easy possessions for Miami. They'll want a cleaner version of their defense before anyone calls this a blip.

Still, a 20-point win is a 20-point win. Miami goes into the next stretch with a result it can point to, and the questions about its defense will keep coming until it shows it can do more than outscore people.
