Orlando Magic vs Toronto Raptors recap: final score and what we learned (Week of Oct 30–Nov 5, 2026)
NBA Audit · Week of Oct 30–Nov 5, 2026 · Game recap
The Orlando Magic went into Toronto and took this one 121–114. Our preview said the burden was on Orlando to prove its defense could hold up against a productive Raptors offense. The Magic answered by winning the shooting game, and that changes how we read both teams.
The result
Orlando won by 7, and the box score shows where. The Magic shot 53 percent from the field, and 53 percent from three on 18 makes from 34 attempts. Toronto was good from deep too, at 41 percent on 11 of 27, but Orlando's volume and accuracy were a notch above.
The free throw line is the other big story. Orlando made 25 of 29 for 86 percent. Toronto went 11 of 15. Orlando got to the stripe nearly twice as often, and Toronto was whistled for 33 personal fouls to Orlando's 21. For a team that wanted to make Toronto work for every possession, that is a very efficient way to do it.
Toronto did plenty right. The Raptors shot 51 percent on 46 makes from 91 attempts, grabbed 15 offensive rebounds and finished with 38 total boards to Orlando's 32. They also dished 31 assists to Orlando's 30. That's not an offense that broke. It just ran into a team that turned its shots and its trips to the line into more points.
How our preview held up
We made no pick, but the lean was obvious. We wrote that "everything lines up in Toronto's favor," pointing to better recent form, a higher scoring rate and a stingier defense. On the surface, that read was wrong.
The preview's central question was whether Orlando could defend with any consistency. This game doesn't settle that. What it does show is that the Magic's offense was more than "fine without being a weapon," which was our phrase. We said Orlando only needed to be steady. They were sharper than that, particularly from three and the line.
We did leave the door open. We said we wouldn't write the Magic off, and that Toronto's edge might be "a fast start" rather than something real. That caveat looks smart now. Still, I'd own the bigger miss: we leaned on season-long scoring rates and underrated how much free throws and shot-making could swing a single night.
What it means
For Orlando, this is a statement win against a team we had pegged as the one with the clearer path. One game doesn't erase the defensive concerns we flagged, but it shows the offense can carry them when it shoots like this.
For Toronto, the shooting numbers say the offense is fine. The issue is how often Orlando got to the line and how few of its own looks it gave back. If the Raptors want to keep their scoring edge meaningful, cleaning up the fouling is the obvious place to start.
The takeaway is simple. Trajectories matter, but on a given night the team that makes its threes and lives at the line can flip them. Orlando did exactly that.
