Philadelphia 76ers vs Detroit Pistons recap: final score and what we learned (Week of Nov 5–11, 2026)
NBA Audit · Week of Nov 5–11, 2026 · Game recap
Philadelphia 76ers 112, Detroit Pistons 106. The 76ers went into Detroit, took on the team with the stingier defensive profile, and left with a 6-point win. That's a statement road result, and it's a loss that makes the Pistons' strong start look a little less airtight.
The result
The shooting percentages barely separated these teams. Detroit hit 46 percent from the field and Philadelphia hit 45, so this wasn't a night where one offense found the basket and the other didn't. The 76ers made 39 of 86 and the Pistons made 38 of 83.
The separation came from the margins around the shooting. Philadelphia got to the line 28 times and made 25, which works out to 89 percent. Detroit went 18 of 23. Detroit also committed 24 fouls to Philadelphia's 18, and in a game this tight that matters.
The glass told a similar story. The 76ers pulled down 48 total rebounds to Detroit's 41, and nine of theirs came on the offensive end against just four for the Pistons. Those extra possessions are the kind of thing that doesn't show up in the shooting line but keeps a game tilted.
Detroit actually had the better night from deep in volume, hitting 12 of 34 from three against Philadelphia's 9 of 24. The 76ers were the more accurate team from there at 38 percent to Detroit's 35, though. The Pistons also had 25 assists to Philadelphia's 23, so the ball movement was fine. They just didn't get the free throws or the second chances.
How our preview held up
We picked the Pistons, and that pick was wrong. The case rested on Detroit's two-way profile: a recent scoring average of 114.3 against 104.9 allowed, versus a thinner cushion for a 76ers team scoring 111.8 and allowing 110.1. It was a sound argument on paper, but the game didn't follow it.
Some of the preview did hold up. We flagged Philadelphia's offense-versus-Detroit-defense matchup number of 6.8 as the visitors' best argument, and the 76ers scored 112 against a Pistons defense that had been allowing 104.9. We also said to watch the glass, and Philadelphia won it. Where we missed was in assuming Detroit's defense would be the stabilizer. It wasn't, and the Pistons scored just 106 against a recent average of 114.3.
I also leaned on the idea that defense travels better than shot-making. Here, the 76ers' edge came from getting to the line, finishing there, and cleaning up misses, not from a shooting heater. That's a fair lesson about how this team wins.
What it means
For Philadelphia, this is the sort of win that makes the 7-1 recent stretch easier to trust. Our concern was that the 76ers were winning with a thin margin for error. They answered by winning the free throw and rebounding battles on the road, which is a more repeatable recipe than hot shooting.
For Detroit, one loss doesn't erase a strong run. But the Pistons' profile leans on defense, and giving up 112 at home is a result they'll want to look at. The free throws and offensive rebounds are fixable. They're also exactly what a good defensive team can't afford to leak.
