Orlando Magic vs Phoenix Suns recap: final score and what we learned (Week of Nov 6–7, 2026)
NBA Audit · Week of Nov 6–7, 2026 · Game recap
The Phoenix Suns needed a game like this, and they got it. They beat the Orlando Magic 117-104 at home, a 13-point result that gives a struggling team a little oxygen. The Magic, who went into the night with their own problems, leave with more questions than they arrived with.
It also went against our preview. We picked Orlando, and that pick was wrong.
The result
The Suns won this one by shooting the ball well. They hit 45 of 87 from the field for 52 percent, and the three-point line was the real separator: 17 of 34, an even 50 percent. Orlando made 13 of 38 from deep, 34 percent. When one team is that much sharper from distance, the other team has to find the difference somewhere else.
Phoenix also moved the ball. The Suns finished with 30 assists to Orlando's 28, and they added 14 steals against the Magic's 9. That's the profile of an offense that found easy looks and a defense that made life uncomfortable.
Orlando did plenty on the glass. The Magic pulled down 48 rebounds to Phoenix's 33, including 15 offensive boards to the Suns' 6. They also got to the line 24 times and made 13, which is 54 percent. That's a lot of free-throw trips to leave points on the table. Phoenix attempted 13 and made 10.
How our preview held up
Not well, and we should say so plainly. We liked Orlando because the Magic had the better defensive foundation, allowing 115.5 points per game against Phoenix's 119.9. We also expected the Suns to be chasing the game. Phoenix instead scored 117, well above its 111.4 scoring average, while Orlando finished at 104 against its 112.3 average.
One piece of the preview did land. We called rebounding a possible quiet separator, and Orlando clearly won that battle. The problem is that it didn't matter. Extra possessions are worth a lot less when too many of them end in misses from outside, and when free throws go unconverted. We leaned on season-long defensive numbers and underweighted how much a hot shooting night can flatten a profile like that.
We also made Wagner's playmaking the key to the Magic offense. Orlando's 28 assists suggest the ball movement was there. The shots just didn't fall at the rate Phoenix's did.
What it means
For Phoenix, this is a night to take seriously but not oversell. The Suns were 1-5 over their recent stretch, so one win doesn't fix the defensive questions that came with giving up 119.9 a night. Still, holding Orlando to 104 is the sort of result that lets a team believe the fix is possible. The 50 percent shooting from three is the part to be skeptical about repeating, so the stops have to carry more weight going forward.
For Orlando, the picture is more frustrating than alarming. The Magic were 2-5 recently, and this adds to it. But they won the rebounding fight comfortably and got to the line far more often than Phoenix. Those are habits worth keeping. The three-point shooting and the free-throw conversion are the fixable problems, and if those even out, this team looks better than the result suggests.
One game won't settle either season, but it did change the mood around both.
