Orlando Magic vs Golden State Warriors prediction and preview: team news, form and key matchups (Nov 7)
NBA Audit · Week of Nov 7–8, 2026 · Game preview
Some games are decided by stars. This one may be decided by who still has enough bodies. The Orlando Magic arrive in the Bay Area on Saturday, Nov 7, with five names on the injury report marked out, including their leading scorer. The Golden State Warriors have their own problems, with two knee surgeries and an illness keeping three players sidelined. But the Warriors are the ones with the cushion, in the standings of recent results and in the scoring numbers. The question is whether Orlando can scrape together enough offense to make this uncomfortable.
How they come in
Golden State has the stronger recent résumé, and it isn't close. The Warriors are 5-3 lately, and the underlying numbers back that up. They score 116.2 points per game and allow 110.3, a scoring margin of 5.9. That's the profile of a team that wins more than it loses, and it does so from both ends.
Orlando's picture is rougher. The Magic are 2-5 in their recent stretch, scoring 111.6 and allowing 115.7 for a scoring margin of -4.1. They're giving up more than they score, and that tends to show up in the results. If you want a charitable reading, the offense is only a little below where the Magic would like it. The defense is where the damage is happening.
Neither team has a schedule excuse. Both get one day of rest and neither is on a back-to-back, so this is a fair fight in terms of legs.
Team news
The injury report is the headline here, mostly on Orlando's side. Paolo Banchero is listed as out with an ankle sprain, and he's averaging 19.7 points per game this season. Losing your top scorer is bad enough. The Magic also list Jonathan Isaac (knee), Jalen Suggs (knee), Noah Penda (hamstring strain) and Izaiyah Nelson (ankle surgery) as out. That's a lot of rotation to cover for.
Golden State isn't whole either. Kristaps Porzingis is out with an illness, and both Moses Moody and Jimmy Butler III are out after knee surgery. Gui Santos is day-to-day with a knee issue. That's a real hit, but the Warriors lose fewer players, and the main creators in their lineup are intact.
The matchup that decides it
Start with the scoring gap. The Warriors have the higher scoring rate, and the matchup gap between the two offenses comes out at 4.6. That's a meaningful distance for a game that may be played at a fairly modest pace for Orlando without its usual shot creators.
The more interesting layer is how each offense meets the other defense. Orlando's offense against Golden State's defense is the bigger of the two matchup edges, at 1.3, compared with 0.5 for Golden State's offense against Orlando's defense. So the Magic do have a path. If they can get into their sets cleanly and avoid empty possessions, they can stay within reach. But that path asks a depleted roster to be efficient, and that's a tall order when your best scorer is in street clothes.
My read: Golden State doesn't need to be spectacular. It needs to avoid giving the game away, and its profile suggests it can do that.
Players to watch
Stephen Curry is the obvious one, averaging 22.8 points per game. Against an Orlando team missing several of its defensive pieces, he should find room to work, and his shooting gravity will open lanes for everyone else. Draymond Green, at 6.7 assists per game, is the connective piece. When the Warriors are humming, the ball moves through him. Y. Lendeborg, at 6.5 rebounds per game, matters on the glass, where Orlando will want to create second chances.
For the Magic, Franz Wagner is the player to track. He averages 7.7 assists per game, and with Banchero out, he'll likely have to be both facilitator and primary option. Wendell Carter Jr., also at 7.7 rebounds per game, anchors the interior and gives Orlando its best chance of winning the possession battle.
Our pick
Our pick: Golden State Warriors. The facts lean the same direction almost everywhere. They have the better scoring margin, the better recent results and home court. They're also dealing with fewer absences, and none of them is as damaging as losing Orlando's leading scorer. The Magic have a defensible route if Wagner and Carter carry the load, and the 1.3 matchup number says their offense can find some openings. But it's hard to trust that against a team that has been outscoring opponents while Orlando has been getting outscored.
